To safeguard her family’s waning status, a young woman vows to wed a mysterious suitor. Just before the nuptials, her younger brother perishes in a confounding self-immolation while clutching an aged book. The woman encounters the “Fukurou,” or the “Imperial Library Intelligence Asset Management Bureau.”
Fukurou informs her of the existence of “Maremono,” volumes that have a deep impact on readers. Following her sibling’s death, the woman unwittingly acquires the ability to perceive “Auras” – the sentiments of Maremono that appear as radiant light, invisible to the ordinary eye. Ill-fated circumstances seem to push the woman towards doom. Despite her reservations, she embarks on a journey outside of her confines. The imperial capital is enshrouded in darkness, brimming with envy, animosity, contempt, compassion, and love. The woman’s trail leads to a treacherous act of disloyalty. Can she triumph over the shadows after grappling with them, or will she ultimately surrender to their sway?
